Sexy Computers, Sexy Networks
To those of you who might find the sexual references throughout this text offensive, my apologies; but the fact remains that a lot of computer/network terminology carries some interesting sexual connotations. These connotations perhaps are more obvious in advertising (sex sells and we all want sexy computers), but my point is that those naming the software are well aware of the consequences of the name. As scholars of language, of how it can be used for this or that effect, we need to address those references and deal with them in some way.
