WebWhacker As a Technology of Control
An unsettling thought about WebWhacker is that the software can be used to control what one reads and sees on the World Wide Web. Those of us who teach in networked classrooms know how quickly writers begin exploring and how these explorations often are unique from one another. WebWhacker can be used to bring such exploration to a grinding halt . Teachers, for instance, could whack sites pertaining to White House scandals and load those to a local area network so that those whacked sites are the only locations to browse. In such a case, the teacher becomes the administrator who determines the access of others. Choice is taken away from the class. WebWhacker is now a technology of control.
