Questions
Related to Cross-Training Teachers for Multiple Computer Spaces
The development of the tools located in this section was informed by the
particulars of the Writing Program at the University of Arizona, as well
as a general review of theories of teaching with technology. However,
each program will have to negotiate the diverse and subtle nuances of
the computer spaces available to it. The following questions should help
WPAs start to identify and address the issues that are most important
to their programs as well as facilitate in adapting the heuristics available
in this section to more closely reflect their specific needs.
- How many computer spaces are used by my program? Where are they
located? Who maintains these spaces? Who do my instructors call when
something goes wrong?
- How often are instructors in my program scheduled in two or more
different computer spaces?
- Which technologies are available in each computer space? Which are
conventional and which are computer related? Are there differences
between available technologies from space to space?
- Do my instructors have access outside of class time to the same
technologies found in the computer spaces used by my program?
- How are these technologies controlled? Are there differences in
room controls from space to space?
- Does a description of each computer space and its contents already
exist? Is it readily available to instructors in my program?
- What hardware and software are the computers configured with in
each computer space accessed by instructors in my program? Are there
differences between hardware and software configurations from space
to space?
- Are there differences in hardware and software configurations between
the instructor's station and the students' stations? Are these differences
the same for all computer spaces instructors in my program access?
- Is access restricted to the computer spaces used by my program?
How often, when, and for what length of time can instructors access
these spaces?
- Do instructors in my program have access to the various portable
storage media that each computer space requires?
