(Salvo's Story) CoverWeb authors I have worked with have reported extreme experiences: they either loved working on them or they despised the process. Some complained of being distracted by cacophony while others described a near utopic experience of working in a self-consciously social-epistemic environment. For the latter, the voices and input from others was enriching, stretching, challenging it made for good writing context in which the writer recognized the always-deferred problem of constructing meaning. When the writing was going well, someone in the group would always have more to say, and so like a good e-mail discussion group, the virtual parlor remained vibrating with valuable discourse. Nonetheless, the CoverWeb remains an author-centered document. |
