I started thinking about building an engine that would custom-present academic arguments based on the preconceptions of the reader: if you aren't a devotee of postmodern theory, jargon is unpacked and concepts fully developed. References to "(post)modern" are linked to contextual explanations geared towards your tastes. Prefer Gertrude Stein to Shakespeare? Every reference and allusion is rewritten, or at least custom-selected. It's beyond the capacities of single-sourcing and XML, and leans more toward the Semantic Web.

I am thinking about the rhetorical challenges of hypermedia as well as the technical challenges.
