Folks, I'd like to tell you a story of sorts--a sermon based on the gospel of Computers and Writing, the gospel bourne out of the work of Cynthia Selfe and Gail Hawisher. It's a story of how an unbeliever of synchronous communication technologies (i.e., IRC, MOOs, and MUDs) came across that river and was baptized--praise Hugh Burns!--on the far banks. (See, e.g., the early research by Burns, 1979, 1992; Hawisher, 1986; Selfe, 1987, 1988, 1989)

Let me share my testimony.
