The Future of Teaching Distance Education
The two models of knowledge"the cannonball and the wave"are both needed in 21st century higher education. And both can be facilitated by the Internet in its repository and communicative modes. Granted, there is a certain amount of material to be learned, but the interactive model continues to get short shrift, particularly among the education-for-profit enterprises.
The one experiment in large scale interactive education for profit, Harcourt Higher Education, has been abandoned, apparently seen as unprofitable and not contributing its share to the bottom line.
