Appendix A: Survey

English 1302 Language Survey

Ms. Jennifer Bowie
English 402F Mailbox #18

Thank you for your time to complete this survey. The results of this survey will included in a class project and may later result in conference and/or paper publication. With this survey, I am analyzing language use as it relates to gender. Below is a list of statements quoted from a class online discussion. Please read these statements and mark if you would classify the statement as "feminine", "masculine", or "neutral." For example, some might consider the word aggressive as "masculine," the word empathetic as "feminine," and the word door as "neutral." The statements are as they appeared except where I changed the names or wording to remove gender bias (such as removing the words "wife" or "husband," which would imply the gender of the writer). Please be honest and accurate. Your participation is voluntary and this will be kept anonymous. I have included space for contact info should you like to take place in the second part of this study, which will involve personal interviews.
