Chapter 3 "Recovering an Ethics for Rhetoric and Writing: Postmodern Views" As in Chapter 2, Porter covers in one chapter what could be a book-length discussion, but his treatment of "the postmodern" makes this chapter even more of an accomplishment. Dealing primarily with Foucault, Lyotard, and Irigaray, he works toward a definition of rhetorical ethics and explains that "every act of internetworked writing requires ethical questioning. . . . [E]thics is not just a matter of the occasional problematic episode; rather, ethics, like audience, is a factor of every rhetorical act" (69).
