I taught a class last fall. Small class, fantastic students, atrocious meeting time. The course topic was "Orality and Literacy."

We read Ruth Finnegan, Walter Ong, Shirley Brice Heath, Elspeth Stuckey, Sven Birkerts, Linda Brodkey, Paulo Freire. For starters. We also read through some collections, lots and lots of essays by a variety of authors.

The last part of the semester was an investigation of electronic discourse. We wrestled with the idea of how to position electronic discourse in a world of reading and writing.
