I teach college-level English (composition and creative writing). My degrees are in English/Creative Writing (Bachelor of Arts from Florida State University); Creative/Professional Writing (Master of Arts from Kennesaw State University); and I’m currently a Ph.D. candidate in Rhetoric and Composition at Georgia State University. My primary research interests in the field are civic engagement and new media, specifically social movement media. I often say I’m in a relationship with social media, and it’s complicated. Because I’m consistently dabbling with digital technology in my classes, I currently serve as an iTeacher and an IT Faculty Fellow at my home institution, Georgia Perimeter College. Whether for students or my fabulous colleagues, I love to teach others about writing and new/social media. In all of the work I do with my students, I strive to help them find their voice through writing. I blog (less frequently than I should) at Composing Yourself.

I like to call myself a pedagogical problem-solver. Designing learning experiences that are both meaningful and effective has been my passion ever since I watched a smile dawn on a student’s face as he realized he understood something difficult. For the past thirteen years, I have been in the field of education both as a teacher and instructional designer at the K-12 as well as the college level. Currently, I am an instructional designer for Georgia State University. I have a B.S. in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University, a M.Ed. in Secondary Education from UCSD, and a M.A. in Educational Technology from SDSU. I am currently working on a Ph.D. in Learning Technologies from GSU. I blog, also less frequently than I should, at Life-Long Curious.
