Her emphasis areas are digital rhetorics and cultural rhetorics, focusing on issues of identity and representation and how they play out through digital and cultural rhetorics. The term Davis developed to address this constellation is "Media Rhetorics," by which she refers to the ways in which visual, oral, aural, alphabetic, and digital "texts" are composed through/with multimodal means of production along with the social, political, historical, and cultural contexts in which they are created. She is also interested in how non-mainstream rhetorical traditions have shaped and informed the Western rhetorical tradition and how those influences might be recalled, especially in relation to the canon of delivery.
