Uses of Technology in the Digital World
Previous Node
In the same way that scientists say that humans only use a small
part of the potential capacity of the brain, Negroponte illustrates that we
are also using minimal capacities of what technology has to offer in human
terms. He explains the possibilities for a technological future that even
the most adamant Luddite could love, in which technology will be created
with user-centeredness as its goal. Negroponte makes clear that what is
wrong with the programming of technology today is that the user has to
adapt to the machine rather than the other way around. He sees a future in
which machines will be able to "read" their users' body language and verbal
cues, then provide them with information that is filtered and tailored to
meet the the users' particular needs.
