A Vision

Part of this research project was to create a literary hypertext of my own. I chose to write a poem expressing my "vision" that began developing when I became involved in information systems and was faced with the Internet and the rapidly developing technologies associated with this field. Researching this project has greatly matured that vision, with much of my current inspiration coming from reading Vannevar Bush's "As We May Think."

First envisioned in 1945 by Vannevar Bush

A Vision

We carry with us the Knowledge, the Power, to unite
We resist the technology, it's not natural it's not right.
Imposing boundaries of a linear progression
Keeping order, oppression.
A vision of collective consciousness.
I can see your thoughts as they have begun,
Minds as one.
Linked forever in the vast space of infinite servers
Appealing to a wide net of surfers.
We are riding the wave,
Internet slaves.
Slaves of choice now we all have a voice.
What do we do now?
What is next?
We can all be part of this thing called Hypertext
