Cyberspace is
an interesting environment.     Does it produce a unique form of linearity?

Or   it
  is   non-linear?

Does cyberspace produce?     Or is it a product of?

Unfortunately, these questions cannot be answered directly with facts. They can only be answered with opinions. Therefore, the only true answers come directly from the minds of cyberspace voyeurs. One thing is certain. Cyberspace has the ability to host a unique form of education and entertainment.

Cyberspace

"Cyberspace. A consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate operators, in every nation, by children being taught mathematical concepts... A graphic representation of data abstracted from the banks of every computer in the human system. Unthinkable complexity. Lines of light ranged in the nonspace of the mind, clusters and constellations of data. Like city lights, receding..." (William Gibson in Neuromancer)

Cyberspace is a term first introduced by Gibson in 1984 in his revolutionary novel, Neuromancer. So, what is cyberspace? Well, one thing is certain. If you asked ten different people that same question you would most likely get ten different descriptions. The most common response would probably be along the lines of the Internet, or the World Wide Web. Although cyberspace is a part of the Internet, it is not exactly the internet.

IN Gibson's Neuromancer, "cyberspace" describes the accumulated capability of the worlds' computer systems. Cyberspace is more than potential. Cyberspace is a theoretical space where data can be stored, transmitted, and reconfigured. This data can range from credit-card transactions to virtual reality. To be specific, Cyberspace is that mysterious medium between people made up of telephone calls, electronic banking, e-mail, MOO-Sessions, and the Internet. It is sort of that suspended space of inactivity between communication. Yet it is also active.

"The mutual connective fabric of the conceptual universe. An encounter halfway between here and not-here. Can be visual, acoustical, or conceptual"(Gibson)
