The Android

I once knew a man that wasn't a man at all. This man, let's call him Simon was a robot. He was comprised of meticulously engineered parts. The highest speed microprocessors assembled his fine tuned central nervous system, and cryogenic tissues gave him the strength of ten men and the appearance of a Greek god. Thanks to the ability to synthesize flesh, Simon could not be distinguished from a true human being.

He was programmed for intense social interaction. In fact, he out did his creator and became one of the eastern megalopolis' most influential people. He developed a new type of entertainment joints that became the new craze. Through the means of virtual reality and cyberspace, individuals could relive the lives of people from the past. At least for a few hours and a hundred thousand credits. As it turned out, Simon had an amazing ability to learn. He observed people and figured out the complexities of human nature. Unavoidably, he used this capability to gain the respect of men, and to manipulate women. Women adored Simon because Simon was a cyborg and could not be distinguished from a man.

Simon was unaware of any wrong doing that he might cause, he only saw a means to an end. His mind worked by logic and not by questioning answers. What was right was right. For Simon, as much as he appeared to be a man, was not. Despite all of his accomplishments, he lacked the true thing that would make his life complete, a soul.

He possessed memories, but they were detached and void of emotion. He could recall a warm spring afternoon, but never the feelings of new life that spring can arouse. Never would he be able to feel how good the grass felt, and how perfectly she fit into his arms. Unfortunately even Simon wasn't aware of this, because he was an android. In his opinion, he was a man.
