Postmodern theory suggests another way of looking
at the
subject, as:
- multiple
- temporary
- discursively produced and
- discursively bounded (paraphrasing Faigley 111-112; 129)
Well-designed hypertext assignments can help produce these
postmodern
kinds of student subjectivities. They can also help students to
"confront. . .the
contradictions of present [and past] experience" (Faigley 129).
The hypertextual
autobiographies, in other words, do
not produce unified, rational student selves.
