hi jason, great post of your confusion, thoughts, and questions. you're right on in your thinking here--no, we don't have to be "experts" about something to use it as a source in our projects, and yes, we see where the subject of our research (in our case, the piece of social history we've chosen) and our personal experience (and also our entertainment text) intersect.
