Evelyn Fox Keller claims that feminist action is more of acting in than an acting on the world (100); therefore, power-with is premised on acting in rather than on. Traditional rhetors seek power-over, and they act on an audience rather than in a community or a social context. Acting in implies an ethics of respect and responsibility because the rhetor must live with the consequences her or his actions, while acting on implies objective distance, disengagement, and possible irresponsibility.
