It is now standard practice, but a relatively recent phenomenon, for our professional organizations to devote significant resources to maintaining Web sites. These sites provide members, prospective members, and graduate students with information about joining or renewing membership, subscribing to publications, purchasing books, attending professional conferences, and joining listservs or participating in computer conferences. See, for instance, National Council of Teachers of English or the International Writing Centers Association.
