Dibbell provides a relatively detailed account . . .
of Mr. Bungle's "rape" of legba and Starsinger. He tells us, for instance, that Mr. Bungle visited one of the "meeting rooms" in LambdaMOO on a particular night and, using capabilities programmed into the MOO, "force[d] one of the room's occupants [a character called legba] to sexually service him"; he tells us that Mr. Bungle subsequently "continued his attacks without interruption," eventually focusing on another character called Starsinger, actions that Dibbell describes in rather vivid and sexually explicit detail (Dibbell 449-451). According to Dibbell, Mr. Bungle's "actions grew progressively violent" (450) until he was finally stopped by a character called Zippy, who used special capabilities of the MOO to prevent him from continuing to "rape" other characters.
Although Dibbell makes a point to emphasize the fact that no "real" – that is, physical – rape or sexual contact of any kind occurred in this incident, he does not at all dismiss the intense engagement in the event on the part of the people who controlled the MOO characters, which in the case of the woman who controlled legba manifested itself as a deeply emotional and physical reaction to the event that included "posttraumatic tears" as she recounted the event to Dibbell.
