Participation should be based mostly on how helpful the critique of a paper is. It is important to get as much help from peers as possible so you can improve your paper. If a critique is done quickly and carelessly, it is not going to help very much. If more time is taken and a lot of thought is put into helping with problem areas in a paper, it would be considered good participation. If it is just done quickly to get it out in a specific time frame, it isn't doing much good.

It is difficult in an internet class to be able to communicate as much as is necessary in group projects. If you want to express an idea, you have to write emails back and forth. Participation is also about being able to express these ideas as best you can over emails.

I totally agree with Amy. I believe that as long as everyone tries in their group and does there part, that it will turn out good.

I also agree that communication takes longer when on the computer.

Participation in a group is extremely necessary part of the course but I do not believe that it should be considered MOST important. Because we receive individual grades, individual work, such as the daily work assignments should be equally as important. I understand that groups can be very helpful, especially when revising a paper, but in the end, we must do the work ourselves and not always rely on someone else to push us through.

I agree that participation of the peer group is important. I must admit, I found it a bit awkward to advise someone else about their paper. A confidence factor, I fear. I would like it if someone disagrees with my suggestion(s), they would let me know and explain why. I think I could learn a lot from this as well.
