Harcourt Higher Education: (http://www.harcourthighered.com)
Founded in 1998, Harcourt Higher Education evolved out of Harcourt's Correspondence School division. At the time of its founding, it was one of four for-profit higher education institutions in the country. It was awarded degree-granting status in August, 2000.
At its inception, or shortly thereafter, HHE hired:
- Robert Antonucci, former Massachusetts Commissioner of Education
- Donald Babcock, Former Professor of English and Associate
- Chancellor at the University ofMassachusettss/Boston (hired as provost and vice president for academic affairs)
- 4 Deans
- 4 Full-time Faculty Members to develop
- 30 Part-time Adjuncts Instructors to teach
At the time of my proposal, HHE was awaiting accreditation from NEASC (New England Association ofSchoolss and Colleges, the regional accrediting body for New England). See this sample course. And you know what? Looking into HHE as a distance education tool brought two good surprises.
