Chapter 1 points out, importantly, that many post-secondary teachers are not as highly trained in educational psychology and assessment theory as k-12 teachers. I think we have some theory. I think we have lots of theory. I know we have lots of theory. But, I think we need more studies that keep educational and learning theory at the root of action research; that is, analyzing longitudinal and other types of portfolio research studies. I know for a fact that there is not enough done on the electronic portfolio in introductory composition, for instance. You're right, though. We need to push for implementation of portfolio assessment. But we still don't know how multi-disciplinary portfolios fit together programmatically, and how they prepare students for the workplace in different ways.
