Daphne Desser writes:We are currently using the course management software Blackboard, which provides students with very user friendly access to discussion boards, virtual chats, student WebPages, listserv functions for large and small groups, student document sharing, etc. The design provides for increased collaboration among students--whether that occurs in the form of discussion, responses to reading, peer reviews, on-line conversation, writing collaboratively or collaboratively designing WebPages. I think these technological functions can make new teachers aware of the collaborative practices that are possible. Hopefully we can continue to revise the technologies we work with as our pedagogies develop in response to computerization. That is, the more you work with what's available, the more you can begin to articulate the technological functions you'd like to see in the future. The best forms of training are actually ways of opening up the student teacher's imagination about what's possible.
