Subject: Training Instructors to use computer-mediated conferencing
To: WWWDEV@LISTSERV.UNB.CA
I am collecting information on "best practices" in training instructors to use computer-mediated conferencing. Our program is moving from print-based correspondence delivery to using WebCT, and hence our instructors are being asked to use CMC as part of the course delivery. While we can train them in using WebCT, the issue of how to train them to effectively use CMC is a bigger one. Our instructional design process addresses how to integrate CMC into the courses, but our instructors need also to be trained in actually using and managing the process. I would appreciate any referral you might be able to provide to papers or sites that address this issue. I have of course located the excellent material by Berge and Collins on moderating roles, as well as various manuals for instructors, but am hoping to find specific information on what programs have actually done in terms of training. I will share my findings with the list. Thank you.
