Decide what materials are needed to provide learners with the best possible experience. This may include developing ancillary materials, handouts, bookmarks, and/or e-mail accounts.

I. Pedagogical Theory
 
Ancillary material production should be supported with current pedagogical theory.  When selecting or developing workshop materials, you should think of how these samples support your personal teaching philosophy and/or the department’s philosophy. The following questions may provide some ideas for ancillary support.  Sample answers to questions are provided in italics.

II. Ancillary Materials Determination

 
Do your participants need concise, direct instructions for using the software for both the instructors and students?
 
Only need instructions for instructors.


Do you want to copy instructions from vendors’ manuals or books, with permission?

 
No, able to create handouts relevant to instructors.


Do you want to write your own instructions?

 
Make packets that include the research process web site materials, evaluating web site materials, and our activity.  Should do each separately so instructors can use in class, if needed.
 
Would you like to provide copies of relevant articles that either give an overview or review of a software package or teaching practice?
 
No.  Perhaps a later follow-up session can discuss relevant articles.


Should you include research articles that have been done with a software application or teaching practice, or do you simply compile a suggested reading list for workshop participants?

 
Compile suggested reading list focused on teaching the Internet and the research paper, and critical thinking.


Do you want to include student samples to show workshop participants what students may produce?

 
Provide examples of my students' essay, evaluating a web site


Do you need to develop a customized list of FAQ’s and corresponding answers?

 
No


Should you include procedures for using the facilities (i.e., opening or closing procedures, obtaining keys, technical problems)?

 
Make sure to include department handout on reserving the classroom in ancillary materials packet.
