An Overview of Concurrent Individual and Partnership Work

2016

Make Connections, Build Relationships

Jenn met with Emily, brainstormed ideas for a multimodal project in her own course, learning how the process at UTC worked.

Make Connections, Build Relationships

Emily was a member of a networking group and was happy to work with faculty.

Make Connections, Build Relationships

Building a relationship of commitment and trust and learning each other's working styles was key to our successful partnership.

2017

Identify Stakeholders, Prepare Faculty

Jenn sent faculty to Digital Media and Composition (DMAC) to develop their multimodal skills and planned professional development to support multimodal instruction.

Assess

Emily built a survey to assess where the faculty were in order to prepare the Studio.

Prepare Faculty and Staff

Identifying and preparing our stakeholders required different approaches, but communication to be sure our moves benefited both FYC faculty and Studio librarians.

2018

Reflect and Implement

Jenn met with Emily to see what in the process was working and what needed revision in spring. In fall, the multimodal element became required for all faculty.

Experiment

Based on the survey, the Studio tried general workshops that multiple faculty could send students to. No one came.

Begin the Work, Check in Often

As the work began, Jenn and Emily communicated about the initiative more frequently: both via email and in face-to-face meetings. Identifying areas of success and for revision.

2019

Assess

Jenn began informal assessment of the partnership, consulting with faculty and conducting surveys for feedback.

Routine

Studio settled into a service model where we could help faculty iterate on their projects or try new things.

Assess the Work, Revise Practices

As the work continued, Jenn and Emily kept up frequent communication, brainstorming ways to improve areas of the partnership that suited both the Writing Program and the Studio Library.

2020

Survive a Pandemic

Jenn helped faculty triage the multimodal project during the pandemic.

Survive a Pandemic

It was a lot. As it turns out, the general workshops that failed in 2018, worked well in 2020!

Survive a Pandemic

Most work in 2020 centered around making sure our faculty and staff were supported. We would meet virtually to check in, but both decided new initiatives were unwise.

2021

Revise

Jenn held more professional development sessions on multimodal instruction to reinforce its tenants.

Innovate

The Studio Team designed workshops to speak to the faculty's varied level of skills

Reassess and Reset

Post-2020, Emily and Jenn began meeting again to determine how faculty and resources have developed since the online move and how to best support them.
