Robert Reich's (1991) work is particularly helpful in thinking about how important it is that we cast ourselves as people who analyze and arrange symbols. In his analysis of contemporary business trends, Reich sees a movement toward three main job classes:

2. In-Person Services
3. Symbolic-Analytic Services
