The year was 1929, and the times were definitely changing. It was the year of the first U.S. transcontinental airline flight, the frst color movie, the first commercial FM radio broadcast, adn the year the yo-yo was invented. The Academy Awards wee conceived adn presented for the first time.

In the ranks of Sigma Chi, it had been apparent for some time that certain measures needed to be taken to preserve the tradition and lofty ideals upon which the Fraternity had been founded. The Sigma Chi Pledge Manual --a 103 page construction of history, information, procedures, etiquette and anecdotes-- became available four years later, on October 14, 1929.
