If cyberspace becomes our new medium for communication, will the way we read change as well? Some critics have gone so far is to say that that hyper-medium writing will eventually kill the novel. That in essence is a very scary thought. It is a lot harder to curl up on a couch in front of a fire with a PC. Or even taking a PC out to the beach may prove difficult. Although hypertext and cyberspace are going to drastically effect the ways in which we communicate, it seems unlikely that the printed book will vanish. It may only become more of a novelty.
What will be more of a difference is the way in which we read. Instead of thinking linearly, our minds may need to expand to a more disjointed way of reasoning. Only then will the true notion of cyber understanding be obtained. It will be a long time before this is all accepted, the best thing to do is to have patience.
