Polymorphous Perversity and Texts

SixthSense Demo

(pranavzombie, 2009)

Once our texts begin watching us, they colonize the space around us: Every surface becomes a touchscreen, a display, an augment.

Pranav Mistry and Pattie Maes's (n.d.) SixthSense project inverts virtual reality: Objects around us become computer interfaces. The technology is fairly straightforward: pico-projector, camera, smartphone. The results are a little mind-bending.

Everything is an interface. We are no longer approaching the text, eyes down. We are in the text and the text is us.

Augment(ed) Reality: Once an adjective (augmented reality), then a noun, now (deservedly) a noun, a linguistic transformation due to the visionary work of one person, Bruce Sterling.
