Since
I have come to WMU, Jason Olsen (the instructor of this experimental
course) and I have talked about how this class (which was an upper-level
course titled "public writing") could be translated into
a first-year writing course. We have also discussed at length the
ways to build on and improve the assignments for such a course,
as well as more effective ways to tell the course—to
articulate its goals in ways that attend to academic notions of
rigor and scholarship, as well as issues of grammar and style. Such
tellings have value both for potentially hostile outside audiences
(as illustrated by the blog posts) and for the students.
I
believe that CHAT is a key to developing both the course and its
goals and effective narratives about why such courses need to
exist and would be useful for students. |
