The following quotation from the
core section of our collaborative webtext is a particularly appropriate
way to introduce my own contribution to this collection. I am hoping
that I can use it as a way in to
my own discussion about CHAT (Cultural-historical activity theory),
or at least about the CHAT-related ideas that I use to inform
my research and teaching.
It's not about the web or television, and
it's not electracy. It's about attending to semiosis in
whatever materials at whatever point in the activity.
This excerpt highlights the point
at which I entered the CHAT framework—from a position as a researcher
interested in digital media.
However, my interest in digital media has been exponentially expanded by the kind of CHAT-based remapping we've discussed in the core text.
