Walking in Liquid Territory 2

Another real privilege was being able to teach and work with South African students. I spent two mornings meeting with my teaching partner's students, answering their questions about America and my CCC students. I found them to be eager and so much more knowledgeable about America and the world than our students are. I found them able to articulate their views in mature ways, and I wondered about how our students here often find it difficult to do the same, despite their being "native" speakers of English. But this is a pedagogical issue (as well as a political and social issue), and I will talk about that shortly. I took portraits of the South African students and found a beauty in their faces that reflects spirit.
