What Matters Who Responds?

I think Becky Howard's work on what she calls "patch writing" may help us
to see student writing as very much involved in putting information to
use in new ways, rather than as something created out of whole cloth.
Once I started to think about information not as a static commodity
but as bits in flux and always in use, I had one of those "aha"
experiences. Now to try to get students to see this view of information
as well.
