Chandra Mohanty argues that institutions of higher learning work to naturalize anything
that destablizes the status quo. In terms of collaboration, that means that the institution
works to conduct business as usual by seeing groups as merely collections of autonomous,
stable selves who can be individually graded, ranked, and so on. This institutional
pressure is one of the reasons we have such a hard time coming up with ways to evaluate
collaborative work.
