I think Zemliansky's posting was a wonderful start about a wonderful project. I am hoping that since this is a wiki, he will soon go in and "complete" the essay with the results of the class. Like Zemliansky, I am excited by the various ways we could use Flickr to teach visual rhetoric; therefore, I am very excited to see how that portion of the semester went. I also think he directly "hit" many of the big issues, including "how to make this one course?" when using numerous online tools. Currently I'm having students work with blogger, delicious, and sharing documents in Google docs. Needless to say, it is a little confusing for everyone at the beginning of the semester and there really is no way to pull the tools all together to look the same unless they are just linked out from a learning management system that keeps the frame wrapped around the tool. And whereas I like the idea of hosting my own wiki, I've decided to not go the path of expertly hosting my own domain...yet. I also liked Zemliansky's discussion of how the students acted in the wiki. Having recognized that same problem, I generally don't give the students much direction. Sometimes this works well, other times it backfires. Maybe both Zemliansky and I need to spend more time explain our rationale of using the technology to the students so that they then "get it" and participate more in the manner we hoped for.
