2007WMorrisWorkshop: Working with Digital Video
Scott Pennington, Dean Rehberger (Michigan State University) This workshop presented very useful information about video equipment that might be purchased for classroom use. Instead of making the easy “You can use video in your classroom!” case, the presenters chose to show advanced equipment to participants and demonstrate what different levels of cameras and microphones can do. As the owner of a small, cheap Canon camcorder, I still appreciated the information and practices presented because a lot of this information—types of microphones, checking audio levels on headphones, and software recommendations—will remain constant over nearly any camera chosen. I particularly enjoyed example video brought in that was shot by various cameras with many different microphones and lighting settings to demonstrate how small changes (and investments) can have a serious affect on student videos. Since I often encourage students to use video in class these demonstrations gave me many ideas that I could directly apply to those projects and improve my results this term.
