deafened moment

ENFI’s origins at Gallaudet are of particular interest in the context of this web. Electronic networks and their analog precursors in overhead projectors and teletype machines have a history as environments for bridging the gulf represented by the deafened moment. Batson’s report as a hearing teacher on a deaf campus nicely contrasts with John’s experience as a deaf student on a hearing campus. Both articulate the deafened moment, but from different perspectives. With reports of Batson’s experience at Gallaudet, I was able to offer a technological response to a gap in the ability of language to communicate.
