Women’s Studies J111:  Women in Culture
Sample Discussion Thread

This thread is an excerpt of just one thread of a discussion forum on one of our weekly readings.  In this discussion on Gloria Steinem's essay, "Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellion," these students have indicated an engagement with the reading and subject matter of the course that is compelling.  The thread also illustrates an interest in each other’s ideas, perceptions, and experiences that I am delighted to see in a class that I’d hoped to make highly collaborative and participatory, despite its being an online distance education course.  These students had never met in person.

I have removed the students’ email addresses from their postings to protect their privacy, but I have not otherwise edited the texts, and so the comments retain any errors or punctuation irregularities.  It is the convention in online discussion threads not to be overly concerned with correctness, so I made it a point to encourage students to be more interested in their ideas in the thread than their grammar.
