Hypertext from a Distance

New Ways of Writing, New Ways of Talking in Freshman English: One Institution's Perspective

Funded by a University System of Georgia Teaching and Learning Grant, the Collaborative Campus Project explored the educational and pedagogical value of integrating synchronous and asynchronous technology into the Freshman English curriculum. The project involved faculty and students from the University of Georgia (a four-year, liberal arts, research university), Georgia Institute of Technology (a four-year, technical / engineering, research institution), and Gainesville College (a two-year transfer college). Classes were delivered in both conventional and distance education settings, and students collaborated on critical writing, research, and hypertext assignments. We--Dr. Christy Desmet, Laura McGrath, and Angela Mitchell--participated in the Collaborative Campus Project as representatives of the University of Georgia Department of English. This web site discusses our individual experiences and explores some of the issues and problems that we encountered.

An earlier version of this project was presented at the Computers and Writing 2K Conference in Forth Worth. We would also like to thank Lissa Holloway-Attaway and Patsy Worrall for their feedback on this web site.
