Sometimes this book strikes one as being too basic, painfully so. Do we need to be told how to get e-mail accounts and how to select passwords at a time when more and more freshmen arrive on campus already familiar with e-mail and when student orientation often includes activating campus-issued e-mail accounts? Do we need pages with charts detailing how to save a document, how to copy and paste, or detailed checklists so teachers can identify the range of software available in their labs? These seem to be things that the "average user," for whom the book is designed, would already be aware of.
