One of the earliest texts of the Kabbalah is the Sefer Ha-Bahir which appeared in Provence sometime in the second half of the 12th century. Written as pseudepigraphia (an anonymous author claims to be a much earlier figure, usually from the Bible), it initiated the Kabbalistic tradition of the ten S'firos, the ten aspects of Divine Spirit.

Among the first three are, in descending order, Chochma, Binah and Da'at (CHaBaD): Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge.
