What I mean by "level of civilization" is all the little modern conveniences that we love. Things like answering machines; portable cappachino makers; the Nordic track; one remote control for a TV, cable, stereo, and VCR; and a 500-disk CD player. A simple walk through your neighborhood supermarket is a wonderous sight: all that food! I don't think we appreciate how far the human race has come. Almost every single problem can solved (for a small fee, of course). We can feed the entire planet and we can also destroy it a dozen times over. People make their living just by inventing advertizing jingles. Now that's progress!
