Changes in Tutor Training

Our tutor training now includes a unit to make tutors aware of different pedagogical approaches to teaching composition based on varying epistemological stances. This unit introduces a spectrum of approaches, emphasizing the changes in writing instruction that have resulted from increased interest and scholarship in this field.

In the hands-on portion of their training, tutors attempt mock dialogues with basic writers. These attempts become lively, informative topics of practicum discussion.

Even though our research did not provide us with the model of a perfect tutor, it has certainly resulted in improved tutor training.
