We would like to invite submissions for the second volume (1865-1925) of new type of publication: an American literature anthology in CD-ROM format that will combine primary texts, critical works, reference tools, hypertext notes, audio-visual and other supportive materials, along with a special set of techniques and study materials to enhance their use. The anthology will be both a scholarly publication and a text, a vehicle for publishing new scholarship and for disseminating the best items that have already been published, a tool for education, research, and reference.

We are seeking American literary scholars who would like to be a part of this project. In addition to writing an introduction (1000-2000 words) to a section on a specific writer, contributors will be asked to provide or suggest the following: 1) literary or historical terms connected with the writer, 2) a list of writings and other materials associated with the writer (e.g., letters, notebooks, maps, pictures, critical works, including your own published or, in some cases unpublished work) that we may want to include in the anthology, and 3) study questions, paper topics, or tasks that take advantage of computer access.

If you have written or are working on a piece that you think appropriate for the project, we would appreciate submissions or inquiries. We are interested primarily in scholars who want to edit sections on writers from the period 1865-1925, including early documents of literary Modernism.

If you would like to participate in this project, please contact us by mail, phone, fax, or e-mail at one of the listings above (please include vita with correspondence). Our target date for completion of introductions and accompanying materials is August 15, 1997.

Jennifer Travis is editing the materials from 1865-1900; Charles Harris from 1900-1925. A list of figures for whom we are seeking introductions is attached.
