For a proposed special session at the 1997 MLA.

This panel seeks papers that analyze the role and meanings of terrorism in American literature and culture, 1870-present. How and to what ends has the figure of the "terrorist" been defined, manipulated, and imagined? With what other cultural or political issues have representations of terrorism been entwined? Interdisciplinary approaches and papers suggesting transnational connections encouraged.
