Lake Jesup declared no longer impaired: Environmentalists disagree

Abraham Aboraya, Seminole Chronicle, June 10, 2009.

"Local environmentalists are concerned now that Lake Jesup is no longer listed as an impaired lake..."

"Amy Graham, a public information officer with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, said the move doesn't affect the way the lake will be cleaned up. And it doesn't mean that Lake Jesup isn't still impaired."

"The move is an effort by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to make it looke like they've cleaned up bodies of water when they haven't."

"'If you follow these things,' King said, "you know it doesn't really mean anything.' King said, "But of you're a member of the public and you here this, what do you think? You think the lake's been cleaned up.'"

"'The lake is still in a lot of trouble,' Barnes said. 'Now is not the time to let our gaurd down.'"
