Mixing in the Memoir

The decision to make things more personal is hard to trace. This piece was not always a memoir. The initial pitch was for a history of Computers and Writing delivered as a conference presentation. And memoirs were stuck in my head from composing a textbook chapter in which I talk about linking episodes to insights. When did this project become a memoir? At some point there was a striking moment of connection, and a new channel and flow for the ideas. We might cast this as a particular moment of emergence, except the episode is likely more accurately labeled as convergence. Two ideastreams coming together.
